I have reached a point where an intense discussion with my husband will make
me become exhausted and physically ill for days. Same thing when I become
angry with anyone. If I harbor it, it makes me ill. Recently my husband and
I were having a conversation that seemed to be escalating towards
disagreement about something. I felt it approaching with dread, started to
sort of clench physically, and something in me said "Stay open." I made
myself breathe, physically relax, lower my shoulders, open my hands, and
LISTEN to him. I didn't necessarily agree with him, but I did not engage in
the usual pattern of resistance. And I did not let it turn me into a tight
knot. And I did not get sick. So, I think I'm onto something, here. :0)
