I used to think this way. I don't anymore. People with money are just
peoplewith money. That's their cross to bear. ;-)
I wanted to attend some NLP courses. I was recouperating from a back
operation and was broke, more than broke, I was in debt up to my gills. I
was out of work for over two years. I saved enough money out of my
unemployment and disability to go to the first course: $1500 + expenses,
close to $2600 in all to attend.
I went to the course and wasn't satisfied with the basic course. I felt like
I needed more. The advanced courses cost even more, some twice as
much.Somehow the money showed up. My desire to understand this stuff drove
me todo what I needed to do to get the money. I got a better job. I went
without stuff to save money for the courses.
I went to more courses. Each course helped me to afford more until I was
satisfied I could learn on my own.
I don't know what helped me the most. The course work I applied myself to
and absorbed, or doing what it took to pay my own way. But one thing is for
sure, when I got as far as I wanted to go with it, I walked away debt
free... to do or not do with what I had learned. It was mine. I owned it.
It's just a matter of time. If I paid their asking fee they would give me
their undivided attention for the duration of the period they promised, and
if I worked at learning what they had to teach I would walk away with the
information I wanted without any obligation to them or them to me.
There are much higher prices to pay than money... such as your dignity and
self-esteem. Be happy they aren't asking for your first-born, because if you
were needy enough... you'd pay, or spend a lot more time AND money running
away from your obligation.
