Nifty post, as usual, Angelique! I happen to be reading an excellent book
for my hospice work called The Grace In Dying, by Kathleen Dowling Singh.
She observes that people can, and usually do, transform spiritually as they
die, if they have not already done so in life. She spends a couple of
chapters on spiritual transformation in general that are among the best I've
ever read -- a lovely synthesis of Ken Wilber and Michael Washburn. She uses
a Sufi term I was not familiar with, "ego saint," to describe this very place
where we get stuck clinging to a "spiritual" identity. Of course, if the
power is to use me, "I" have to disappear -- or rather, surrender to the
knowledge that there never was a "me" to begin with. Every time I'm with
someone who is on fire as they near death, I wonder about Kundalini -- the
spiritual radiance, the infinite Silence, are perceptible. Love, Holly
