Subject: Re: [K-list] How Karma Works - My perspective
From: Hbkta

Here is another look at Karma from a somewhat more traditional
approach.
Karma is action, original action. Every action has a reaction.
When there is no scope (because of variations in person, place, time,)
for the reaction to manifest immediately, the reaction exists in
potential form.
The reaction in potential form is termed Samskara.
When circumstances are conducive for the samskara to manifest, it
does so. This manifestation of potential reaction is termed
Karmaphala.

So much for definitions.

Each and every action creates the corresponding reaction.
"Good" actions, "bad" actions, both have reactions.

The idea of the Law of Karma has importance in spiritual practice,
spiritual endeavor.
As long as one has the vanity of having performed an action,
one will reap the resultant reactions to that action.
As long as one performs actions with the desire for the result of the
action, one will reap the resultant reactions.
As long as one is thinking, "I, me, me, my," one will be subject to
the reactions of one's actions.
As long as one has samskara's, reactions in potential form, awaiting
manifestation, or Karmaphala, one is separated from the Divinity.

How to avoid or not build up new Samskara in a world where one must,
just in order to live, be involved in action?

Act without desire or concern for the fruits of one's actions. Act,
but leave the results, successful or not, up to God.
Give up the vanity of having performed an action.
Know that if fact you perform no action. All is a manifestation of
the Divine, so are you, so when you act, do so with full knowledge
that you do no action, but the Divine, manifest in you, is acting.

Surrender all actions to God.
The one who gives is Brahma,
the gift is Brahma,
the one who receives is Brahma.

An analogy.
Pure Mind is like a smooth fully reflective silver sphere.
Any action distorts the sphere, pushes it out of shape, clouds its
surface.
The distortion is removed by the manifestation of reaction to the
original action.
All Samskara, all reactions, must be manifest, must be experienced in
order for the mind to return to its original condition.
Only an undistorted Pure Mind has the capacity to merge into the
Nirguna state.
Only a mind freed of Samskaras can be liberated, emancipated.
