Your post was so touching to read, Serena, because it illustrates beautifully
how multifaceted healing is and how reciprocal -- the healer always gets
healed, too. In fact, I see healing as kind of a divine, ever-present
wave-motion that pulses through our lives constantly. We open to this, ARE
this, more and more. So your personal healing and ability to assist in the
healing of others are the same.

Interesting abilities arise, too, as if we are called to help in unexpected
ways. Like you, I've been a psychologist a long time, and now I find myself
drawn to a new "career" of caring for and sitting with the dying -- where
there are few words to speak, no mind in the conventional sense of the word
and few opportunities to draw on my previous skills, unless you count
patience and love. And there is hypervigilant attention to the body. This
is where I can see God in action. There is abundant healing around death,
I've found. All of this new work is a complete surprise to me and, yet, it
is also not a surprise at all but has a sense of inevitability about it. God
