Subject: [K-list] power and punishment

I am beginning to change my mind about something. I have been
reconsidering power and its uses. I know I have at least one little
power that works from time to time. It seems simple to me because it
seems natural that I can do this tiny thing.
In a good discussion I can plant a mental picture in anothers mind. It
is not only the words used but the feeling behind the words. Now I
don't care to force anyone to my way of thinking. But, there was a
time when I felt it of paramount importance to have the other party at
least see the point I was making.
The first time it happened was in a discussion with my friend Bruce
around 30 years ago. We were discussing the bad and unfortunate things
that happen to people and trying to see what fit. I used the term
punishment with the sense that the environment itself teaches us.
Sometimes roughly, very roughly. Like the old hand in the fire. Bruce
immediately tagged punishement with the feel of personal punishment.
We were at gentle loggerheads. Bruce was simply rejecting what seemed
to him that I was saying. While I of course thought I was laying out a
straightforward idea. At this impasse I gathered energy, formed it
around the conceptual point I held so dear and then sent it into
Bruce.
He could tell I was doing it. At first he thought to stop me but there
must have been something in my eyes or energy that let him know it
would be okay. After my concept went into him he paused and I could
tell that he was seeing what I was trying to convey. Where words
didn't work, a transmission did.
Bruce told me that he understood what I was saying then. Great! Then
he said he didn't like it any better than what he thought I had been
talking about!
We just smiled at each other and finished unloading the truck.
So, I have this power you see. I can use it to show you a viewpoint.
Yes, but I have had more use of this power since that time. I am a bit
better with it now. Still, I don't use it much. Why not?
Frankly, it is a bit scary. What if I developed it to the level where
I could not only show you my viewpoint but to have you accept it
willingly. Makes slick high pressure sales when this power is used.
It is what the ancients called a Glamour. It works best with those
already predisposed to your viewpoint. It takes more power when
dealing with those that are having difficulty stretching their minds
around a new idea. And it works barely or not at all with those
holding strong opposition.
It really isn't much of a power. But, I have been working with it and
will continue to do so. I do not want anyone to change their minds
just because I say so. But I would like them to at least see that
there is another way to think and live.
So I have changed my mind about using this little power. I wonder just
how far it can go. Well, we'll see over the next few days if it is of
help.
Now if you get a few interesting dreams these next days...
