Dear List,

 As many of you know, my spontaneous awakening happened in a drug and
alcohol rehab four years ago where I was a patient. It was very intense
and came with a full serving of ecstasy, a side order of K psychosis...
and all the drama of being surrounded by 300 people who thought I was
either demon possessed, a saint or a lunatic.

Now it's 2001 and I'm enjoying a simple and very fulfilling life. But
the big cherry dropped on my sundae on Monday (really) when, after two
years of writing and research, I was given the green light to give a
presentation to the staff of the rehab center where I'm now an intern.
My paper, "Spontaneous Spiritual Emergence - A Recovering Addict's
Adjustment Difficulties Following a Sudden, Unexpected Shift of
Consciousness," addresses issues such as misdiagnosis and credibility...
(with a drug history, clinicians dismiss your visions of angels as
parades of pink elephants).

It means the world to me to be able to tell my story I front of these
people after all these years.

I'm really jazzed about the whole thing... and also a little nervous.
I'll be speaking at is a large, very well respected rehab... and it's
the first time I've ever done such a thing. I have a live butterfly
collection in my belly.

After my song and dance, I'm sure there will be a lot of questions.
Thanks to the thousands of posts I'm enjoyed on this list... all the
wit, wisdom and information... I'll feel comfortable about answering
them. I'm going to mention this community when I give examples of post
awakening support.

I should click out and get back to my notes... which I've been stressing
and fussing too much over. When I get up there, I'll probably end up
just tossing the script and winging it. It works better that way
sometimes.

The curtain goes up Friday at 2:00 pm west coast time... please send me
your good vibes. I will receive them with gratitude.
