Benoit, Benoit, Benoit! Lighten up dear heart. I'm just having some playful fencing with you. Don't take it all so seriously. I'm just having a linguistic frolic, leaping like dolphins in and out of an ocean of words shot thru with light. It's only life. No big deal.
I love that "cru" is raw, and actually, that fits with the English word crude, because "crude oil" is unrefined oil, or "raw" oil as it comes straight out of the ground. So it must bear some relation to the French word, only, being America and not so poetic as the French, it got turned into something uglier than raw. Or maybe it's just that "Americans" think anything unprocessed is ugly.
And speaking of sorrow and joy, do you know "Le Pont Mirabeau"? A poem by Guillaume Apollonaire?
Under the Mirabeau Bridge
There flows the Seine.
Shall I recall our love's recall
And then
After each sorrow
Joy comes back again.
Let night come on
Bells end the day
The days go by me
Still, I stay . . .
