Subject: [K-list] eating one's own

seemingly has nothing to do with K... yea, well, go ahead and reprimand me.
;)
Why do chickens do this?
I have heard of a pack of Greyhounds (racers) attacking an injured
playmate, too. The injured one cries out and the rest turn on it. Why?
Can the intent of greyhounds or chickens that eat their own be legitimately
compared with the intent of humans who eat other humans? Probably yes, why
not?
Somehow, though... I don't see these eating habits as the same. The
triggers aren't the same. And... the chickens and greyhounds are eating
their own, while the humans are eating "not their own"?
Yup, I'm getting confused about cannibalism.
Off to make dinner...
