You know, at the moment I live in a suburb too. (Will be moving to
the city--that is, Chicago--any week now). On my birthday, which was
April 9, a beautiful mating pair of ducks showed up in our backyard,
pecking at the corn that the other birds knocked out of the bird
feeder. That was the only birthday gift I got this year (I don't
place great importance on my birthday, and I discourage others from
doing so), and it was probably the best I've ever gotten.

They kept coming back every day for about two weeks, seemingly
getting more and more comfortable--even sitting down and resting
there for awhile before flying away. In addition to the ducks, of
course, there were the usual birds and the squirrels. (Ever see a
squirrel go up against two ducks? =8-)

Unfortunately, one day I let my dog out in the yard, not knowing they
were there. The dog, of course, charged at them, and they had to
leave in a hurry. Since then, I've only seen them come back once.
