Whether we are conscious of our needs or not
we will project them outside of ourselves
in order to find fulfilment.
What we attract to ourselves is the reflection of
the need we project .. a reflection of that part of us
we love, hate, fear, accept of reject.
This is the principle of the mirror.
Our reaction to the mirror is a reflection
of our attitude to that part of ourselves.
What some call empathy
is the degree to which
some person fulfills our unconscious need.
Thus, it is often found that, unless one is very careful,
within therapy and especially group therapy ..
that one can take on the unconscious projections
of either the therapist .. or another member of the group
in order to fulfil our perception of lack.
This is the energy of transference ..
which can present itself as another personality layer
or dimension .. and which covers up the original issue
for which therapy was sought ...
until one can fully sever any ties created
during the therapeutic process.
I have seen and worked with many cases
of multiple personality disorder
resulting from unconscious transference
which took place during what is loosely called
a therapeutic process.
