Dear Missy,

We parent through trial and error, it is so true... sounds like you have
tried everything, too.

Well, I spend most of my waking hours thinking up new things out of
necessity. You say your 9 year old is gifted? What if you gave them the
responsibility of each other. "Gee, 9 years old and you are really growing
up. I think you are ready to be "in charge" few grownup things." Try putting
this one in charge of the twins.
Make sure the TV is broken that day.

Then your 6 year old might want to keep up with the older sibling, perhaps
this child would like to help be "in charge" of the baby's needs together
with you. Play the teacher role as if this one was in the classroom,
processing and learning all of baby's needs... dont forget to mention growing
up and learning responsibility is what growing up is all about, and a very
good thing... I am sure that feeling of pride is the best for them when
either one can do the job as well as you! Maybe a great challenge for them to
compete with you on the concept responsibility.

Just an idea. Of course you have to build up the idea as a motivation and a
challenge until they want to do it so badly, you cant stop them. Honestly,
there is no TV in my house because with an ADD child, I cant compete with it.
TV is ony a reward. These days, my son doesnt even watch it when he is
allowed to, and has found other activities equally enjoyable.

Sounds like you are a patient person, which, in my case, my patience wears
thin all too often. That is why I am continually thinking, thinking.... of
ways to keep behaviors and the environment low sensory. I would never be able
to handle that many children everyday, let alone birth them.

My PTSD would kick in and I would not trust my responses to be honest. It is
too easy to emulate your past when stressors abound.
