Without discounting anything that Cat or anyone else
has written or experienced on the subject of pedofile ..

without discounting or detracting from the perspectives or beliefs
which anyone holds as to the solution or otherwise of this problem ...

Cat brings up the subject of repeating the cycle ..

I wonder ... from people's experience, if you have any idea why we
have pedofiles in our society. What makes a person a pedofile ..

what was it turned the person .. either male or female into someone
who perpetuates sexual attacks on young (and not so young children)

If we look at how our childhood has affected us, the stories that are
shared on this list .. how childhood experiences have so strongly
influenced everything we do, think and believe, what sort of
childhood do you think these pedofiles must have had.

Can you look, for a moment, past the potential prejudice that it is
only the male who is guilty of sexual offences against young children ..

For, yes, it is the woman whose anger has been raised as she sees
her children hurt .. and there is a voice for the children against the
male perpetrator .. ably supported by activism.

Then, there is the hidden statistic .. the female pedofile .. the female
who perpetuates the cycle against both male and female children ..
a hidden statistic .. because there is not the support for young children ..
particularly males to speak out against this type of abuse ..

Some of the cases that have had the deepest impact on me have been
working with not only the victims of incest .. but also the perpetrators ..
both male and female .. and yes .. I have been involved in successful
prosecutions of both genders ..

But, then, I have also had the time to sit down and talk at length with
the perpetrators .. and whilst their actions can, in no way be excused,
the stories they shared of what happened to them as children
have cut me even deeper.

In this so called enlightened society, have you any real idea of the
atrocities which were committed perhaps as recent as a hundred
years ago .. and hidden under a code of secrecy and silence ..
only to surface in the psyche of todays men and women ..?

I cannot give you a solution .. not one that fits every case .. but I can
tell you that behind every such crime that I have been involved in,
there has been hideous abuse in the perpetrators childhood ..

and that, unless this is resolved, the pattern will continue, and
a gaol sentence or whatever will only drive the pain deeper
underground.

In the "enlightened" consciousness of this list, instead of apportioning
blame and reacting from our own filtered perspective, would it not be
more productive to seek an understanding of why a pedofile becomes ..
whether it be male or female ..

and, yes, missy .. it is possible to pick these people .. but not from
empathy .. but from entering their unconscious and reading what
motivates them .. you should understand what I mean here ..

Why do you think there are these attacks on not only young children,
but adults as well ..

Why has the attacker suffered the damage that s/he has ..?

Again .. I see no one simple answer, because there are a number of
reasons in my experience .. and some people are permanently
damaged .. for them, there is no hope ..

but for another, if we bother to hear what is tantamount to a desperate
cry for help, the cycle need not be perpetuated.

The only difference between you, me, and the perpetrators is that we ..
most of us have developed a little courage to speak out.

Maybe now it is also time to speak up ..
 and not perpetuate the cycle
 with an un-enlightened retaliation out of our own angst
 against someone who ..
 except for the "grace of god"
  could be you or I
