Yes, Jose,

I came inches from being court ordered for a psych evaluation only a few
weeks ago, and honestly, have been dealing with mental health professionals
for most of my life, in various contexts. Usually as an advocate for someone
else, or as a mother, but many years ago, I had to work through post
traumatic stress disorder myself. I dont know how many years of therapists I
have seen who had misdiagnosed one person or another or myself. My son was
not only misdiagnosed, but while I knew better and refused to medicate, I
almost lost my parental rights. It was my strong knowledge of the DSMV and my
familiarity with the terminology that kept up the fight to get the diagnoses,
and the therapy and services that we need.

I have gone through this on numerous ocassions for others while in a
volunteer status, as well as for my foster children. More often than not,
diagnosticians are overworked and will use their intuitive sense to pick a
diagnosis and then spend the rest of the time finding other symptoms to
justify it. This leads to many cases of misdiagnosis, and inappropriate
medications. A perfect example is how professionals frequently diagnose
bi-polar when in fact the subject has a thyroid condition, another common
occurrance is when ADD is diagnosed as BiPolar.

Right now I am experiencing a medical condition similar to chronic fatigue
and narcolepsy, and havent gone bothered to share this with these people..
however, there are a few professionals who I know that are still clinging to
a justification that I have BiPolar, and just for the heck of it, I am not
sharing my medical condition with them just to see how far they might take
their misappropriated conviction...
