Subject: [K-list] how to snip.

It is a common net courtesy, to save time, electricity and bandwidth of
other members who will receive your mail, by cutting out most of the post
you are responding to, deleting it so that part does not get posted again.
This is called "snipping."
There are different ways to do this, but the simplest way is to hit
"reply" or "reply to all" as usual, and then use your right mouse button to
"block" the stuff you want to remove.
Position your cursor (the little line, finger or arrow that shows where
the mouse is) at the beginning of the part you want to cut, then hold the
right mouse button down while you drag the cursor to the end of the part
you want to cut, then release the button. This will result in the part
being "blocked out", it will show up usually as black with white letters,
like a negative image. Then hit the delete key, and the part you blocked
will disappear! Poof!
I use an email program called Eudora Pro, and I can do the same thing
in reverse. I block out the part of the post I am responding to that I want
to be reposted to show what part of the message I am commenting on, then
hit reply to all, and the reply message shows up with just that part quoted
and all the rest deleted.
It is also nice, if you delete the extra addresses after you hit "reply
to all", so your reply only goes to the list, and other people do not get
several copies of the same message. Be sure to delete all the footers and
yahoo advertising junk, too.
It only takes a moment, and gives so many benefits...
If you do this, the other list members will be grateful because it will
not take them so much time, electricity or computer memory to download your
mail. The environment will be better off because you are conserving
electricity. The members who read the digest will be happy because they
won't have to scroll down through all the stuff they already saw, to read
the next message. The internet will be happy because the resources will be
less burdened and will run faster for everyone. I will be happy because my
job as List Mistress will be easier and more fun if I do not have to remind
you to snip.
You will be happy, because you are being nice to the other members, to
me and the other moderators, to the environment, and to the internet
community as a whole... which is really the same as being nice to yourself!
Thank you!
