and I wonder ..
how many people can put these words that they
quote in their own expression .. so that their
personal and life experience shows that they
have a practical embodiment of the words of
these long dead authors ..
======================
Speaking for myself, I usually do manage to express whatever I have to say
in my own words but sometimes I am finding that what I want to say has
already been said and done by someone else several thousand years ago who
could express him- or herself much better than I ever will be able to. So
instead of wasting several paragraphs and boring the readers I might then as
well just quote them instead.

lets face
it, some of these authors died before English was
invented and spiritual language was defined by the
Church of Rome

Your point being?
You wrote:
and I wonder
what sort of preconceptions of the meanings of
words and language influenced the one who did
the translating ..
==================
And what about your own preconceptions as a reader?
You wrote:
and I wonder
if the one who did the translating could live up to
what he was translating in his own life ..
===================
And what if the translator couldn't a 100%? Does a translator have to be a
saint?

and I wonder
whether he lived the life of a recluse, or
of a renunciate .. or whether he lived as some of
us live .. in a house in society in the modern world
with all of the everyday energies of other sentient
and not so sentient beings milling around ..
===================
Does it matter whether the translator used to live in the woods or whether
he or she had a family?
You wrote:
at what inner turmoil so many are using these words
to cover up ..
=============
Huh? Are you implying that if I were to quote some sayings attributed to
Jesus or the Buddha e.g., I were only trying to cover up my own "inner
turmoil"?
You wrote:
and I wonder
who is the authority in their life ..
======================
Could you please define what exactly you mean by the authority in one's
life?
You wrote:
and do they really
have free will .. and the power of choice
================
I say yes we do. What about yourself Christopher, what do you say?
You wrote:
and most of all, I wonder
if someone came to you with a real life gut wrenching
crisis, would you be able to hear what they are really
saying from underneath the sobs .. and respond with
compassion .. or would you react .. either from your
own unresolved issues .. or from what you have been
taught you should believe ..
=====================
Well, I like to think that I would listen and try to comfort the persons
despite all the "unresolved issues" I may be carrying around and despite of
"what I have been taught I should believe". Or should I wait until I have
become fully enlightened before showing some compassion for my fellow
beings?
Wondering myself,
Karin
