The primary cause for concern with microwaves
is that if you eat or drink food immediately after
the oven has turned off, there is still microwave
radiation within the food ..

and it continues cooking ..

both you and the food ..
 as you eat or drink it.

The rate of dissipation of the microwave energy
depends on the type of food .. for large pieces of
meat, for example .. or other foods which are very
dense or contain lots of fibre, this cooking process
can continue for a considerable time ..

As a rule of thumb, I leave the food in the oven for
at least five minutes to stabilise before serving ..

tests I have done show that after this period of time,
residual microwave energy is below the general
background level which we get from the environment ..

unless, of course, you live near a radar transmitter
or near an airport .. or other microwave device.

each of these is equally capable of frying you ...

(I had a portable cooker once that I designed from
a Klystron from the local airport hooked up to a
reflective umbrella .. it was very good for blowing up
police radar guns .. and cooking rabbits alive ..
 from a distance of about half a mile away.

This was when I was much younger ..
you should have seen what I did to the local butchers
display window from inside a pick-up van parked
100 yards away ..

they never did figure out how the meat in the
window got cooked for several days in a row ...

 and it could be focused on a single leg ..
