To me, and I mean no offense or disrespect, but this is one of the most
ridiculous arguments. Have you asked any native people what would be
their preference? Hummmm. To be put on tiny pieces of land that were
deemed worthless. To be treated as less than human. To have your sacred
areas desecrated and destroyed. To not be able to practice your
religion. To have less opportunities just because you are native. To
have treaties and agreements never honored. To see the Earth who you see
as sacred being treated so poorly. To lose the sacred teachings of your
culture through intimidation, beatings and death. To be stripped of
your family as in the cases of the children who were taken from their
families and treated worse than most people would treat animals. To deal
with the alcohol that is killing you and those around you. And there is
more. Oh yah those cars, central heating and shopping malls are
worth all that. I'm sorry for the snotty attitude but this is really
crazy sounding to me. Native people didn't live in tents. Change is
constant but will we ever evolve beyond killing and oppression in how we
interact with each other? When do we live side by side with respect and
celebration of our differences? Why can't we see the beauty in the
differences instead of fearing them? With confusion, Vickie
