My, my! The list has been too quite for too long... Nothing better than a
little of politics to revive the dead.
Aren't we supposed to be spiritual people? Who said that truly enlightened
beings do not care about politics? Well, I am not enlightened for one, so
may I comment a bit?
Recently, I found this page:

Here is the part of it that is of interest to us:
***Death of the Presidents Since 1841 (Approximately Every 20 Years)***
Before focusing strictly on the Jupiter-Saturn union of May 28, 2000, let us
pause and reflect on the strange case of American presidents dying in office
every 20 years since the Jupiter-Saturn
"mutation" conjunction in Capricorn nearly 160 years ago. William Henry
Harrison (died 1841),
Abraham Lincoln (1865), James Garfield (1881), William McKinley (1901),
Warren G. Harding
(1923), Franklin D. Roosevelt (1945) and John F. Kennedy (1963) were all
initially inaugurated
president during a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in an earth sign. None left
the office of president
alive! Four were assassinated, FDR died of a cerebral hemorrhage, Harding
died of a mysterious
heart attack (combined with ptomaine poisoning and pneumonia) and Harrison
was barely
president--catching a cold during his inauguration, he died of pneumonia a
month later, giving up his office to John Tyler.
Ronald Reagan came into office during January 1981. Jupiter and Saturn had
just united in
December 1980, but in Libra (air element). Jupiter and Saturn came together
in retrograde
formation in March 1981, again in Libra. At the end of that month, President
Reagan was shot by
John Hinckley, Jr. He almost died, but survived to complete two terms as
president.
The question is: Will the next elected President, taking office following
the Jupiter-Saturn union in
earthy Taurus (May 2000), make it through the presidency alive? As the
inauguration occurs on Jan. 20, 2001, Jupiter and Saturn will both be
stationary, pausing in the zodiac and about to go forward just 4-5 days
after inauguration!
**** end of excerpt *****
If I understand the last sentence well, if the inauguration takes at least 5
days later than planned, the new president may not die in office after all.
Let's imagine another scenario:
Because of the recount and other irregularities, a new vote will take place
in Florida. We'll find out that it's Nader who after all is elected
president. The inauguration would have been delayed by at least 5 days and
America will live happily ever after.
By the way, today's newspaper has a picture of the Palm Beach County vote
ballot and I am surprised to see that there actually were 10 candidates for
the presidency. I only heard of three before.
I live in the Republic of China. When I walk in the streets, children would
often point to my white face and shout: "look mommy, an American!". The
truth is that I have never been to the USA (I went to Quebec, once). To be
called "American" used to sound like an insult to me (not anymore: I am now
much more "spiritual" ;-) ). Once, a more educated child saw me in the
street and pointed to my white face and shouted: "look mommy, a foreigner!",
and the mommy turned to the child and said: "No, no, my dear: that's an
American!" :-(
It is funny to see that America who has been leading the world for so long
now, is posed to take a step backward whilst the rest of the world very much
goes in the right direction. Yugoslavia is looking forward to a much better
decade than the last one has been. Israel and the Palestinians, or at least
their leaders seem to be willing to go forward and mend their differences...
even though the situation can get pretty rough at times. In the Korean
peninsula, so much progress has been made within 6 months only.
And closer to (my) home, 6 months ago was also an historical date for
Taiwan, Republic of China: after more than 5 decades of the right wing
nationalist party dictatorship, Taiwan saw its first transition of power
from one party to another one which, 14 years ago was still illegal. The
transition of power took place peacefully and I am very optimistic about
future development about human rights, democracy and ecology. We are going
through a tense political period right now though: the new president is
facing a recall motion by the opposition parties, not because he has too
many women in his life but because he decided to stop the construction of
the fourth nuclear power station, arguing that nuclear power is not suited
to an island with so many typhoons and earthquakes,7.3 last year :-( , that
we wouldn't know what to do with nuclear waste and that we have to protect
the next generation's environment. He speaks about Sustainable Development
and getting rid of money-politics (corruption). Meanwhile, because of the
uncertainties about the nuclear plants, the political climate and the rest,
the stock market is going down, down, down... to the fiery crystal at the
center of the earth... (I expect that it will come up, all the way back up,
like Old Faithful ;-)
Speak about crooked presidents!
Sunday (the 12th), I am going up to the capital, Taipei, to give my support
to the president, protest against the impeachment motion and, above all,
make sure that the construction of the nuclear plant does not start again.
The result of the American election might have a great influence on me and
my adopted country: I live in a potential war zone. Despite what everyone
claims, there are TWO Chinas, and Taiwan is one of them (if not de juro,
then at least de facto). The problem is that Communist China (the People's
Republic) doesn't see it that way. The Taiwan issue is a matter of political
survival for the communist party (just like the nuclear plant issue is one
for the KMT, the party that got so used to being in power that it can't come
to terms with being in opposition). So, in Taiwan, we watch what position
the two candidates have on the Cross-Strait issue. Ironically, even though
there is little difference as the two candidates support the One-China
principle, Bush is seen as being more friendly to Taiwan, like all the
Republicans: a Bush victory means more arms sales to Taiwan to maintain the
balance of military power between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Analysts are getting increasingly worried that the balance is slowly but
surely tipping over to Mainland China, heightening the prospect of war. The
name of the game is: the Armament-race, sino-Chinese version.
Of course I hope for a recount favorable to Al Gore.
Yet I wonder, whoever wins, how will the new American president treat this
wonderful new democracy, a jewel amongst Asian nations, an example (not
perfect but so much better than average) in the heart of the most populated
part of the world. Will he/she (I am still hoping that the recount will
favor a female candidate - out of ten, one must have a yoni, no?) continue
to refuse international recognition to this country? Will he/she continue to
courtship Jiang Ze-Ming, the communist president for his beautiful eyes (and
large market), just like Clinton has been doing for 8 years?
Having said all the above, I am actually very optimistic about the future of
my country, the future of America, of the wold and of Humanity.
What happens when your Kundalini awakens? It's often painful, no? Old karmic
debts must be released, blockage must be cleared. Then, what have you got
left but bliss?
Just like the decade long war in the former Yugoslavia: all this hatred and
mistrust needed to be vented out. We may now look forward to a peaceful
Balkan. The same in Korea. The same in Israel who will eventually find a way
to live in peace with a Palestinian State as a neighbor. The same in Taiwan
who may eventually be reunited within a democratic China, leader of a future
Asian States Union modeled on the USA and the EU (European Union, I precise
for my American friends;-) ).
It doesn't actually need to be painful so let's support Al Gore for a
while... but if it comes to Bush, then let it be. The world has followed
America for the last century. In four years time, the USA may find that it
wishes to follow the rest of the World in its path of further integration
and spiritual development.
Remember the Beatles's song?
All there is is Love!
I love you, Ralph Nader.
I love you, Al Gore.
I love you, George W. Bush.
I love you, America and I love your freedom to elect whomever you choose.
I love you all, dear K-list fellow members.
I love you, Augustin. (one vote for me, is there a need for a recount?)
Augustin.
