   I have learned a lot from other responses to your question. I
also kept thinking of something I had read an finally found it, and
will post it here in case it is useful to you or somebody:
  this is from Rosalyn Bruyere's book WHEELS OF LIGHT, p. 174

"Sexual partners can assist each other in maintaining energy--and
thus extend orgasm [I know this is not your goal but think this might
be useful anyhow--Lydia] --by preventing the kundalini energy from
leaving each other's system. This can be done by placing one's hands
on the partner's back to direct the energy flow as well as by holding
those areas where the energy tends to 'leak out.' One can keep one's
mate in the body--and thus maintain the energy in the region of the
third eye--by putting one's hand on top of the other's head."

  This made intuitive sense to me, which is why I believe it has
stayed in my mind amidst oceans of reading about these things;
haven't had occasion to try it, hope to hear from anyone who does.
