A few of my thoughts on shaktipat?

People tell me I have given Shaktipat. (Had difficulty typing that word :-)
First I typed Shaktipop, then corrected it to Shaktipap, then Shaktipay.)
Apparently given it many times, I do not remember all the occurrences
though.
I had to do quite a bit of thinking on that subject as not everything went
well all the time.
I have seen myself and others doling out Shaktipat as comparable to
providing sexual favours, worse even: quick stimulation, climax and
ejaculation without the appropriate amount of foreplay and afterplay.
Compare it to the handing out of antidepressants without fore-care,
after-care and the proper range of supportive human accompaniment. Think of
peri-natal care. We have been learning and applying quite a bit on that
subject with great result.
In the West, or with Western subjects, (I mean West and Western in the sense
of not Oriental) Shaktipat is not a very *response-able* way of dealing with
"shakti". The receptiveness and responsiveness by each individual is too
varied and complex. Every subject has such totally different set of
aberrations and violations of their *initial and original personal power of
soul and self*. Shaktipat, which in my view seeks to restore that original
and authentic power of self, does not have the same comprehensive support
system in the West as it has in the East. Even Westerners who travel to the
East and receive Shaktipat there, do not mix in well with the Oriental
culture. When I did my work in a psychiatric care hospital here in Victoria
I met 3 ppl. with those *East-West Discrepancy* characteristics. They got
very hurt in India, as well as afterwards here. The Eastern countries
overall, (and I know I should not overestimate that either, as the cultures
there are changing so rapidly,) have so many support structures
(identifiable or not) readily present and available (even taken for
granted). In the West we don't have recourse to that, we are missing that
whole paradigm. Alright we are getting there, slowly, but still.
I know I may be putting this rather strongly, but please, you people who
have had different and better experiences with Shaktipat, call yourself
lucky and thank your guru... but still... consider some of my deliberations.
True enough, Shakti can be trusted... should be trusted... must be trusted.
But are surrender and trust not our greatest difficulties? Many ppl. here
have hardly ever seen a model of trust in their lives, let alone surrender.
Shaktipat can only be given after the initial cornerstone of trust and
surrender is put in place. "Peri shaktal care" anyone?

Love, Wim
