Hi Henry...
I just have a quick question... If you chose not to feel what the hippies were trying to get you to feel, why did you choose a headache? What role did drug use take in your childhood? Do you associate it to a sad feeling from a parent? Just curious... :)
Drugs are tools. Everything we touch to assist us in life, are simply tools. Where one man may use an ax to chop down a tree, another might use a small knife. It would be easy to say that the man with the ax, knows how to get the job done quickly. And,the man with the knife is a fool, and will be cutting for years... he may never even be able to chop down the tree, for his life may run out before the knife will get all the way through.
It maybe possible that the man with an ax will chop down the tree, and be home in time to watch the game. It maybe possible that man with the knife, has a different plan then to chop down the tree. While cutting sliver by sliver, he will become close to the tree. He may spend so much time with the tree, that he begins to feel his hands burn from cutting, and he sees the scars he has made in the tree. He may become aware that he is touching another life form, and that the reason to take such time to cut it, is to become compassionate with the tree. The tree is wise and old... and he may begin to hear the stories of such a great life. He may eventually decide, through understanding, that he does not need to chop down a tree. He may end up living for the tree.
For his taking the time to listen to the tree, he not only saw history, but how killing tress blindly, will cause great harm for our future.
This story can go either way with a debate of drugs. But, the writing behind it... different tools for different lessons. It is not our opinions that change the world for the better, it is our trust in our own path, and leaving room for trusting others in theirs.
I have this saying that there is no right or wrong way to do things... just shorter and longer paths to the same destination.
I bow to you in your path, I am happy to have found you. You are a light and I thank you for your insights.
