Those things (research, "recognizing" domains) are *in fact* the most treacherous and dangerous manipulations that visionaries, prophets, messiahs, bodhisattvas should watch out for: the formalization, institutionalisation and depersonalisation of the unique, authentic, personal and transpersonal experience. That very action of manipulating the "visionary meta-data" demythologises and demystifies the sacred reality of the vision, prophesy, message, etc. It deflates the mysterious content and trivializes the portent. The fire and spark get extinguished... and one ends up with debatable arguments, articles and books... Therefore one is now safe for society... Society has boxed you in... Looks great and monumental but one has lost the numinous...
The 40 day temptation experience of Jesus in the desert is an example of such an instance. However Jesus did not fall into the trap.... Paul, Peter and some other apostles eventually did. The trap being the formation of centres, churches, organizations, institutes, etc... the world recognition...

Transpersonal revelations (which visions are) are even greater and more powerful than general facts, that is why prophets and the like tend scare the living daylight out of the general public.
