For the books poll:

I read a lot when I was a kid. I was an only child and had nothing else to
do! My favorites included all the Madeleine L'Engle books (esp "A Wrinkle in
Time"), some of the CS Lewis books, and the "Dune" series (I read these
young because my Dad had them). I liked any book that had to do with magic
or witchcraft or that was scary. The Lois Duncan books were great..."I Know
What You Did Last Summer" etc. I also loved Paul Zindel's books. He wrote
"The Pigman," and "Pardon Me, You're Stepping on My Eyeball." Then there's
SE Hinton's "The Outsiders."

When I got a little older I went through a strange obsession with all the JD
Salinger books. Little did I know then how important the book "Franny and
Zooey" would become to me later. Ever since K rising I have identified with
Franny many, many times! And yes, I did love Nancy Drew. What a wondrous mix
of mysticism and fashion and feminism and just plain cheese those books are.

I could go on and on, but it's time to work on my novel now (I think I'm
getting closer to the chapter with the UFO visitation! ;)
