Maybe I am being out of place by butting into the middle of this. Most
of you don't know me; I don't remember whether I introduced myself to
the list, or not. Anyway, I just wanted to put in a good word for the
crows.
Like probably most animals, I believe they are misunderstood by most of
us "human" folks. They talk, they socialize, they have "karma attacks",
and they have problems with their kids--just like many of us. This
became obvious to me one day when I was in a park and heard a rukus in a
tall pine tree. There was a small bratty crow
fussing that it was hungry (yes, I knew what he was saying).
Momma crow flew down to the ground and back up with a bug and offered it
to the youngster. He shook his head vigorously and continued to fuss.
Momma tried again, and came back with something else. Same story. Time
to call papa. Caw! ... Caw!... Over flys papa (he was hanging out with
the guys and didn't appreciate the intrusion). Mamma and Papa have a
brief dialog about the situation. Papa looks at Junior. What the hell's
the matter with you? Eat you food! Junior shakes his head. He dosn't
like it. Papa cusses out Junior, gives Mama a look, flys down and gets a
bug and brings it back to Junior. Junior shakes his head and fusses
again. Mama and Papa look at each other,... and fly away! Junior sits in
the tree squaking. An hour later and junior is still squaking, but Mamma
and Papa are gone.
Sometime back around twenty years ago the term "tough love" started to
be thrown around by sociologists and psychologists. I'll bet they think
they invented it, humans are so arrogant!
