Thank you, Mystress, for breaking the guidelines this time.
Optimism and a happier, more creative life has been the final outcome of
awakening for me.
My former live-in was a hard core pessimist. I still love her and just yesterday
she told me she's willing to try to see the glass as half full. She's had some
hard knocks in relationships and wears some pretty deep shoulder chips.
What can I say? There doesn't seem to be an optimism pill on the market.
The article is titled Learned Optimism. Most of us on this list haven't
"learned" optimism, we've *earned* it by going through some heavy life changes
and/or a psychic, spiritual vortex.
Perhaps a pessimistic person can learn positive thinking by the "fake it 'till
you make it" method?
Upbeat, creative thinking isn't an easy thing for some people to grasp and it's
never been an easy thing for me to explain to those who are always bummed out
.... not the textbook "depressive disorder, needs lithium" types (something
didn't feel right when I typed that), but the beaten down, cynical, skeptical
folks. What can you do?
Much Love,
Paul
PS. The Hot Nasties, ay? You must have also known D.O.A. I heard they drew a
pretty tough crowd sometimes. Later I developed a taste for post punk pop that I
still enjoy. On the more "artsy" side, one of my favorites from up 'koover way
was the Visible Targets (I think was their name). They made an excellent disc
called "Autistic Savant." Very intellectual, beautiful songs. Did you get a
chance to see them?
Now, this list is the pogo club that sometimes turns into a slam ("mosh") pit.
I'll see you and Susan on the floor and we'll dance 'till we drop!
