I like to think of myself as a practical mystic who feels guilty that
she's not always behaving as compassionate or as mystical as she
could.

Did you ever hear this story?

A hurricane was headed toward a town and the orders were given to
evacuate. As the winds began to blow and the rains began to fall a
man decides to put his faith in God that he shall be spared.

As the rain turns to a downpour, a man on a bicycle pedals by and
stops to ask the devout man if he would like a lift to safety. The
faithful man replied, "My God will protect me and I shall be spared."
The bicyclist pedals on.

Soon the water begins to rise and the faithful man climbs up to the
porch of his house. Soon a boat floats by and the man at the oars
calls to the faithful man and said, "I will take you to safety." The
faithful man refused replying,"My God will protect me and I shall be
spared." The man in the boat paddles on.

It is getting dark and the hurricane is becoming more powerful. The
water rises until the man must climb onto the roof of his house. Soon
a helicopter comes by and tries to pick up the faithful man. The
faithful man refuses, shouting back to the helicopter,"My God will
protect me and I shall be spared."

The helicopter pilot flies on.

Soon the storm is out of control. The water rises over the man in his
prayers and sweeps him out to sea where he drowns.

In heaven, the man runs up to God and demands an answer. "I am a
faithful man. I said my prayers believing that you would answer them
and rescue me."

God replies, " What do you want from me?! I sent you a bike, a boat
and a helicopter and you refused them all!"

Mightily insured by my labor union (over $30,000 in
benefits) ...trusts in God...but ties up her camel at night.
