My family and friends know that this is exactly how I hope I go, I've told
them I'd like the party before, not after. This comes from what I learned
when my father was dying. He was given a few days ( he was 82, with stomach
cancer) and so me and my two sisters 'camped' in the hospital ( read refused
to leave) and called everyone he knew to come and visit. The few days turned
into two weeks and the time was spent telling stories and 'remembering' his
life, and ours. I'm the singer in the family, so we spent a lot of time
singing the songs he loved and some he'd never heard before. We talked about
his fears and tried to sort out any unfinished business. We laughed a lot as
he recounted his 'morphine' dreams, there was a lot of laughter when I come
to think about it. Also, a bond was formed between us three sisters that
changed the way we are with each other to this day. The doctors were
puzzelled that the few days turned into two weeks and one said the only
explanation he had was that my father was living on the love that surrounded
him.
When I sing some songs or play certain tunes, I still think, this one's for
you Dad, and I suppose, so is this post.
