Wow! The number one cause of bankruptcies in this country is medical bills.
Even if you take superb care of yourself, you could be in a car accident not
of your causing and need extensive, expensive medical care. Heck, it doesn't
even take a car. People get hurt all the time just slipping on ice!
Christopher Reeves, the actor who played Superman, was permanently paralyzed
in a horseback riding accident. He has spent almost to the limit ($1 million
dollars) of one health insurance policy in several years of chronic illness.
Fortunately he has a second policy.
I cannot tell you how many young, healthy people have gotten sick or injured.
A guy I worked with, a healthy clean-living 28 year old software engineer,
developed a brain tumor!
Do you realize that if you got sick and needed extensive, long-term
treatment, like chemotheraphy, doctors and hospitals have no obligation to
provide this? They can say, "Sorry, we aren't treating you, because you
don't have health insurance." How would you like to hear this?
The number one thing that you need to protect yourself in America is health
insurance. If I didn't have health insurance, I would take a full-time job
anywhere that provided it, even if it was Burger King!
