My dear husband sells disability and life insurance. His motto is, "It's a
world of uncertainty at best." I can't tell you how many people end up
uninsurable because their good health turns bad, and quickly. Some people
even end up dead! So far he has had to pay claims out on a 28 year old man
who died of a brain tumor, and on a 50 year old doctor who died a month after
he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
This "skin bag" that we live in is a fragile thing. A slip on the ice, a
drunk driver, or a nasty virus, and the whole thing is changed forever.
The suffering of others is an opportunity to grow compassion and extend it
outwards, just as you would want it extended to yourself if you were in their
place. Because guess what--one day you might be!
