Subject: [K-list] the Divine Beloved (was: stifled )

in the thread "stifled", i think there has been some misunderstanding about
what is meant by the "Divine Beloved" within us... it is not an "imaginary"
lover that some people have... it is what Jungian psychology calls the Anima
and Animus... everyone (or perhaps almost everyone) has one as part of their
unconscious... it is normally a part of oneself within the unconscious that
is of opposite gender of the body (but not always)...

it normally expresses itself as a deep desire for completion that we seek in
our ideal mate that we hope to find and/or fantasize about... and it colors
our perceptions in many of our actual relationships by causing us to project
this part of ourself on another person... it prevents us from seeing another
for the person who they truly are instead of as an extension of our own
needs...

in a Divine Marriage with our own Anima or Animus, we merge the maleness and
femaleness within ourself... as Melissa Toast has pointed out, this creates
a greater conscious sense of wholeness.. we become less needy whether we are
in a relationship or not in one... developing a relationship with the Divine
Beloved is a technique for merging these parts of ourself... it is not
making up a fantasy lover to satisfy our needs...

Valerie, i wish i knew how to teach you to begin on this inner quest... i do
not... but at this point, all i can hope to do is to clarify what we are
speaking about...
