 Yes.
I separate the concept of ego=accumulated karma and fear based
beliefs, from the concept of consciousness.. the conscious mind...
When ego is cleared, the Karma-separation from knowing your own
Divinity that is the Veil of Forgetfullness also clears, and you are aware
of yourself as "spirit having a human experience". Fearless.
When ego dies, it is reborn as a tool/lens for infinite Goddess
manifesting in linearity.. so you can still function in the world of
space-time. Part of the difference is the process of "thinking about" is
replaced by a Zen-silent mind that acts without thinking.. Goddess does the
thinking, and the body is a vessel of that Will.
However, the process of mindfullness remains. Once your personal Karma
is cleared, if you remain on the planet the Bohhdhisattva effect kicks in.
The empathy remains, and you start picking up on the thoughts, fears and
limiting beliefs of those around you.
You can grow a new ego out of the patchwork pieces if you let them
stick... but having memories of how you found your way out, last time,
makes it easier to re-enlighten yourself. Unlike a baby, who forgets what
it was like to be egoless, in the survival process of culturalization, the
adult notices that something is not right, and remembers that there is
another option.
"Satsangh" helps, too.. Good company of spiritual people who will remind
you that you are infinite, when/if you get too caught up in worldly
affairs, and forget that you are Spirit.
Karmic clutter can shut down the faculties of higher wisdom, if enough
of it builds up, and then you forget how to do what you did, to get to
where you were..
I have sometimes taken on so much stuff, I could barely even remember
how to get grounded!
But, I could still remember how to surrender.. surrendering cleared the
stuff, and brought me back into balance, so I could laugh at my own
foolishness.
   Blessings..

The dreamer, seeks to run from fear.. but that is as useless as trying to
outrun your shadow.

The Litany against Fear, from "Dune":
"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain." ~Frank Herbert.
