l don't know the person who posted this, but since it was primarily
addressed to me, l'll make a brief response. The Sai Baba dispute has been
over for several weeks now, and l think most of us prefer that it remain so.
You have quoted my first post to Tony, which was later followed by other
posts in which l stated my position in much greater detail. As l made clear
then, l was applauding Tony for what appeared to me to be a willingness to
recognize the truth. l am not hateful toward gurus and take no pleasure in
seeing one fall. You have described yourself as an optimist who sees purity
even where there is none. l could describe myself in the same way. But
unlike you, l try to exercise some discrimination when it comes to evaluating
the conduct of teachers who harm students. Unlike you, l don't claim to
possess special gifts in recognizing who is worthy and who is not. l simply
look at the facts of each case in trying to arrive at the truth. Over time,
l've found facts to be more reliable than the highly subjective and often
deluded judgments of those claiming special abilities. jerry
