How fitting you mention this, Sudipt.
I know from experience it is true. :)
War in the long run leads to only one
thing and that is the wish for the
opposite of war; pacifism.
When the lust for battle has run its course,
there is a great emptiness left.
But as you say, this takes a long time,
in some instances aeons.
In the meantime, walk the dharma. :)
