Hi Julie and everybody,
Thank you very much for that reminder.
I like the way you use the words "soul deliberation".
I find that a great term.
I also think there must be great deliberation when consciously
working towards what we call enlightenment.
Many teachings say that we are all enlightened, we just can't
see it. They also say the reason is we are all part of one
big soul, which always is and has been "enlightened".
My experiences with "enlightened" beings are unfortunately very
few.
Of the few I have met, none of them had any
sense for other ppl's egos, which are easily hurt, but they
also respected that it was not in their place to fix other
ppl's egos, it was not on their place to fix anything,
and so never used rude or harsh words to anyone or corrected
anyone who was not their personal student.
They of course also had a strict
separation b/n who was their student or not.
On the Bhagavad Gita:
There are many interpretations of the "meaning" of the war
b/n the two families described in the Bhagavad Gita.
Some ppl have used it as an excuse for not promoting peace.
In Indian traditions, one yoga called, the yoga of conflict is
mentioned. I have yet to find out what this really is.
If anyone want to read immediate, modern day comments from
Indian spriritual leaders on this work, go to
www.onelist.com and search for the archives of the Advaitin list.
Start from the archives on 1-1-2000. The Advaitin list had a Bhagavad
Gita satsangh starting early this year. There will be lots of useful
information about the different interpretations of this work there.
On war:
When looking at war, it is difficult to say exactly what it is, other
than it is a conflict b/n differing interests.
It is kind of like the zen koan:
One cannot say he is dead or alive.
One cannot say there is either peace or war.
Another person also said:
War is foreign policy by other means.
It is however, no doubt that a full exposure to a large
scale conventional war is a
great strain on the physical body and the individual soul and very
often makes more damage than good lessons for the soul embedded in
it. It has also a tendency to confuse the individual soul,
although it can carry invaluable lessons as well.
So in many ways, growth of the soul is probably faster without wars.
There are many children serving as soldiers in adults' selfish
conflicts and I personally find this a sad fact.
It is difficult to combine with the view of an all encompassing
god. I guess herein lies the great Mystery.
Peace and love to you all.
Amanda.
