Your definition of enlightenment is, like everyone else's definition,
completely subjective. And you are, of course, entitled to it. I see your
definition as full of 'shoulds,' and that is _my_ perception, of course. I
see it as saying we _should_ turn the other cheek and we _should_ feel
compassion at all times, and we _should_ love one another unquestioningly.
Further, I see it saying that if we 'fail' to live up to this, we have
somehow flunked the enlightenment test.

I, personally, have never come across a single person whom I consider fully
enlightened. I suspect that I won't. I suspect that if such a person were
to reach this state, they would no longer be here in physical reality. I
see us all as in a state of becoming. Some are simply more focused on the
becoming than others.

In my completely subjective definition of enlightenment, I see it as a
continual broadening of perspective, a glimpsing of and then a KNOWING that
we are each far more than our little human lives would seem to indicate on
the surface. Further, in my personal definition, it is pointless to
denigrate the ego, because the ego---as voice of the logical analytical left
brain---is what keeps us focused in physical reality. The ego is simply
doing the job we set it to do so that we can keep on living in a body in
this consensus reality. And WHY do this? Why live at all in this limiting
body? In my belief, it is for one reason and one reason only: to gain
experience and to give this gift of experience to the whole, to All That Is,
for the benefit of all.
