Later, watching TV, channel surfing.. saw a news report. The Pope
 apologised for the Witch burnings, the Spanish Inquisition, and the errors
 of Missionaries who were disprespectful of other cultures.... life

Yes, I read a translation of what he said...I wish I had kept the link now,
because it goes far beyond what the news reporters are saying. But there's
the clause that the Church is God's and therefore perfect, even if the
followers are not, so it's really more of an apology for the action or
nonaction of it's Catholic followers, not the Church itself. Still the Jews
say that apologizing for the Church not condemning Nazism or helping them is
not enough. But when you consider the Witch burnings and forced conversions,
are the actions of the Church (ahem...*followers* of the Church) any better
than those of the Nazis? Yes, there's a huge number associated with the
Holocaust, but I don't think we could ever get a ballpark figure high enough
to estimate the number of people killed, maimed, or psychologically damaged
by Christianity...not to do the "big bad church" thing again, but I really
have been thinking about that since reading the Pope's apology.
