Dear James & Hillary !
You're right - semantics can confuse issues and keep us on a limited level of
throwing words about even with the best of intentions (which is not to say
that my intentions are always the best, hahaha...)
I often find myself in the situation of just blabbering on about all kinds of
things, where the kind, but slightly irritated listener then usually
proceeds to give me a tiny, but palpable kick in the behind. Just to remind
me of the fact that, in order for understanding and good communication to
happen, striving for clarity beyond semantics and word-mongering can
definitely be helpful.
At times I really enjoy writing, so, even if we don't have fundamentally
different points of view and the origin of this was just a little innocent
pun, I'll go off rambling again...
Arrggh, of course it's only even more words - maybe the best is really to
shut up! Or, in any case not to take words too seriously.
Anyway, I proceeded to make coffee and then sat down and attempted to shine
some more light upon the question whether we're avatars or not, just as a
little academic and philosophical exercise.
Bear with me, if you will... (or just press delete)
I think the traditional definition of an avatar is something like " A being
coming into the physical world with full knowledge & realisation of its
divine nature, i:e. naturally-born enlightenement with all supplementary
powers this is supposedly accompanied with. This being then has a clear
mission linked to the raising of consciousness and liberation of humanity" -
Something like that anyway.
So, according to this definition and in the ususal perception of the world
where things are divided into "I" and the "other" and "mine" and "yours",
it's maybe a little bit unlikely we're avatars in the strict sense of the
word - BUT
a.) If we feel in tune with our spiritual side, there'll be that inner
feeling of connectedness to the All That Is, which is a milder, maybe
slightly restricted form of "avatarness" (or should I say "avatarity")
b.) If we really delve deeply into this issue ( and if the crown chakra isn't
closed), we'll eventually conclude that, since we're ONE in consciousness,
that which IS in the avatar is just the same as that which IS in me & you.
So, on this level of perception, we already "become" the avatar - or we
actually were the avatar all the time in the first place without noticing it
!
c.) Since it's all ONE under the surface, there can't be many avatars or
kundalites or whatever - just one big, rolling and roaring wave with
billions of little droplets in it.
d.) "Incarnation" and "unincarnation" are only more divisions into
multiplicity -
just as "avatar" and "non-avatar". It's the dictatorial left-brain or ego,
screwing us into believing something which is essentially untrue. This
mechanism can be seen from other angles as well, I think G.I. Gurdijeff for
instance called it the "kundabuffer" or something like that. In India of
course, the whole phenomenon is described as the "Veil of Maya".
d.) Who needs definitions anyway ? Dumb question, in order to think,talk and
make ourselves clear, we have to differentiate, i.e. define. The price
however is a moving away from the sense of unity into separation, limitation
and the feeling of "many" and "different"
e.) May I be so bold as to rephrase the "In the end, we all are...nothing.
(no-thing)" into "In the end, we all are ...one-thing" ?
Ok, Ok, I can already hear the jeering of "Semantics, Semantics" and feel
the impact of flying vegetables and ageing eggs, but please, believe me, I'm
not trying to be clever here. It's just that, even if our essential
underlying reality is empty, I don't think it's the emptiness of non-existance
, the total annihilation of a dead and lifeless void. I like to think of it
more as a living, intelligent, absolutely peaceful silence out of which all
and everything having form and shape just appears and then eventually returns
into ....
