Hello list !
Maybe the idea of guru-tattva or universal guru-principle is worth taking up
again in this discussion on abuse by gurus and whether persons of
questionable deeds and morality can actually be a guru.
As far as I understand, the guru-tattva idea essentially means that, just as
there are basic principles at work in the universe such as cycles in nature,
there is also the principle of intelligent and guided (not random) evolution
from matter into spirit.
In order to accomplish this, nature mainly uses friction/contrast between
positive and negative (evolving through uncomfortable experience, "karma").
When the individual consciousness reaches a certain point in this process and
deliberately begins to organise its life so as to evolve (going on the
spiritual path), the guru-principle kicks into overdrive, and one suddenly
finds spiritual teachers and evolutionary situations perfectly suited for the
next step. So, the universe or nature is actually setting up persons and
situations in order to move on according to its plan.
Of course this is just a concept, but somehow it feels sort of "right" to me
.
What I also kind of like, is the idea of God sitting up there on his cloud, a
cold beer in hand, stroking his long and wavy beard and deliberating:
"Well, today in my infinite wisdom and creativity, I think I'll manifest as
a guru, since I need somebody to dish out spiritual teachings. Now, in order
to not make it all too obvious and easy for those that I play the game of
"disciple and follower" through, I'll have the guru person do some nasty
stuff. That way, I can also play the game "confusion and disappointment".
And, actually, I want to find out what it feels like to be humiliated and
abused by a person in power - that teenage guy in the ashram OVER THERE will
do just perfectly ...Oh man, this is just so much FUN!! All this wondersome
EXPERIENCE !!
And, being God and there's no limit to the experiences I can have, just to
make matters a bit more interesting still, I'll throw in some groovy persons
sitting at their computer screens, stroking THEIR beards (well, maybe I'll
have the ladies scratch their heads ) and debating & discussing these
matters....
Who knows, maybe this is really the way these things work behind the scenes ?
