Some people become followers, because it is easier than taking
responsibility for thier own lives. Larsson certainly qualifies. These
people also tend to be "professional victims" who will always blame someone
else, for what they have created. If you tell these people they are gods of
thier own lives they are not grateful to hear it.
I have compassion for Sai Baba, I think he is a prisoner of his own
creation. Back in the 70's he was caught faking manifesting vibuti, and he
apologised. He said that he is human and some days just cannot do the
magic.. and he has the expectations of millions of people projected on
him.. he was afraid to disappoint them, and fear can be very creative
stuff. He promised he wouldn't do it again, but expectations are
multiplied now, aren't they?
l strongly disagree with this, and l find it inconceivable that one can
feel compassion for Sai Baba and find him blameless, while at the same time
dismissing Larsson as a "professional victim". A professional victim is one
who wears victimhood like a suit throughout life, a calling card to be used
whenever the situation he's in requires it. lt does not apply to someone who
accuses one person of victimizing himself and others, particularly not when
the evidence overwhelmingly supports his statements. Perhaps Larsson will
conduct himself in such a way in the future to earn this title, but he
doesn't deserve it based on what he's done so far. This approach of putting
the victim(s) on trial looks even uglier in the spiritual world than it does
in the courtroom, where it always signifies the lack of a valid defense.
l never heard about the
confession SB made about faking vibhuti in the 70's. l too would be more
inclined to feel compassion for him if he indeed made not only this statement
but conducted himself otherwise in a manner that would suggest sincerity or
some truly human emotion such as remorse. lnstead we have had over 50 years
of his proclaiming himself to be the most holy and omnipotent being on this
planet and committing an endless number of harmful and deceptive acts in
order to perpetuate this myth. l would love to see this statement of his,
because if he truly said something like this (which l doubt) -- one time,
over 20 years ago -- it stands alone against the thousands of times he has
proclaimed himself to be not human, but rather a god.
The truth is that we have no idea why SB has done what he has done.
We don't know how much of it is due to his having dug himself into a deep
hole, later regretting it and feeling trapped (as his purported statement
perhaps suggested), or to what extent he is a sociopathic monster. The
evidence inclines toward the latter, but we only know what he has done, and
that any promise "not to do it again" was violated thousands of times.
Honestly, rather than simply condemning SB myself, l would really like to
know the true story. l'd like to know to what extent SB had true intentions
and real power in the beginning, and how he got from there to the
dehumanized, degenerate fraud he was to become. Until we know that, we will
have no real person to feel compassion for, because SB removed himself from
the human realm in a deliberate, 50 year campaign, orchestrated with more
hype than any other spiritual figure in modern history.
Before one can legitimately feel compassion for SB one has to first recognize
what he has done. One must first feel compassion for every one of the people
whom he sexually molested and every one of the tens of millions of people
whom he defrauded and deceived. Refusing to do so smacks more of denial than
a true act of compassion.
l know this has a pretty
harsh sound, and l usually regret harsh sounding posts after l send them,
especially when l respect the people with whom l disagree, as l do with the
people who have defended SB. But this is a profound disagreement on something
l regard as important. l agree on the value of taking responsibility for
ourselves in regard to spiritual teachers and all others, and on finding a
middle ground in our feelings toward others when it's possible to do so. But
we must first strive to recognize and value the truth, and on that l do not
compromise.
