In a religious context, for example, such things as people taking off
their shoes or falling down on their faces 'in the presence of god' has
less to do with awe and reverence than with a very real need to get
grounded when one opens to the experieincing of powerful energies. I at
times experience the need to get my shoes off and my bare feet grounded
that it feels as if even if I don't do it mysef, they are going to just
blast themselves off my feet anyway. And after much pain and difficulty
with this groundng thing, all the stuff about getting one's hands and
feet into ground contact not really doing much for me, I finally
learned, by chance, that for me, it was the UPPER body and head, the
upper chakras, I needed to get into ground contact. I can lay on the
ground, face down, and get the greatest releif, feeling not just the
negative energies, but the often simply 'overcharge' of energies within
me, draining off, being drained out of me into the ground.
