I think that this is an absolutely idiotic position!! Any person who is in
a sincere search for enlightenment will naturally want to minimize the
amount of pain he doles out to the world around him.

It's so easy to go to the supermarket and buy a celophane package of meat
and eat it. This really puts a distance between the living, breathing,
feeling animal, and the package of red material bought at the supermarket.

I think meat eaters should be required to look into their eyes and kill
their own animals before eating them.

What would be perhaps interesting is pieces of meat raised artificially in
incubators. Say a chicken breast or a New York steak raised in a controlled
environment. Putting an end to the slaughter of animals.

It's difficult to abstain from meat when living in the world. When everyone
around you is eating meat. I myself have tried to cut back and eliminate
meat altogether. So far it's going ok. But initially the smell of meat
gave me intense cravings. I wonder why God made meat tast so good? I am
trying to find alternatives. I'm not saying I'm perfect, and I'll never
slip back into purchasing a burger from a fast food joint. But I am
focusing my efforts to minimize meat intake, and cut it out altogether.
This makes sense spiritually.
