Hello list:
This post is in reponse to Jenell, who wrote:
"BUT the 'worst' effects of a hospital expereince for many is
what that
on their 'health records' can do in many areas of life, for a
long
time, even the rest of their lives. It can disqualify them
from many jobs,
complicate their defense if ever charged with a criminal act,
continue
to have devastating effects on their credibility in many ways
for a
long time. So no one should EVER take lightly the idea of
entering a
hospital for what might be considered mental/emotional
difficulties. I can have some pretty bad effects on other
areas of one's life."
When I was hospitalized back in 1988 for an acute psychotic depression
(precipitated by my sister's suicide), the last thing on my mind was
concern about future effects. At that time, it was a choice between
that or suicide (and I had a wife and three children). My hospital stay
was really a lifesaver. I would not want anyone in my position to not
seek this refuge for fear of future ramifications.
Indeed, I am not aware of any serious negative consequences of my
hospitalization. I had a government job at the time, and not long
afterward, I voluntarily left and joined the private sector. My
hospital stay is a reminder of how sick I was, and how much progress I
have made (for which I am extremely grateful).
We are each following our individual path back to God. For some of us,
a stay in the hospital may be a vital part of our journey.
Blessings,
Robert
