and hello everybody!
when I first joined this list a few years back I owned a mobile home way
way out the road...I sold it a year ago to my friend - pretty much for
just *walking money* - the pulp mill was closed & no reason to be way
out there for anybody.
I'm renting a very very nice older apartment in town, with a
magnificent view of the water & islands & boats, & is just a couple
blocks uphill from town. It is rather like putting the cart before the
horse, because the rent is almost $800.00 a month, but my landlord is
the nicest guy in the world & works with me to make payments, & somehow
I have made it each month.
My first job was graphic designer at Mirror Images - a graphics shop
down on the dock. Then we started an ad weekly called 'Weekly Images'
since October before last. We can't find any real ad salespeople the
whole time; it was me having to read up on 'Selling For Dummies', &
somehow we've made it this far.
But exciting things are happening. Since the instigator - another
businessman with computers & mostly a tech - & myself helping - took
charge to affiliate us with www.kanoe.com, a guy who's website he calls
"the webpage of Alaska's First City, & presents lots of the local events
which he goes to & writes articles about. So we are metamorphing into an
'alternative newspaper' for our community, as there is only one other
(family owned & operated) newspaper, & things are often slanted on
there.
And meanwhile, I was hired as a 'photographer's assistant' by a guy
on the same dock! So I work more full-time for him now, because he can
afford to pay me! LOL
This is the third winter encroaching since the pulp mill closure,
this past tourist season sucked, as the weather was crappy all summer
(which is very unusual), & people still here rather like ravenous
wolves! It's so nice for them that I am here to shine them on! Some real
good lessons on being thick-skinned!
My daughter Amelia is now in second grade. She is remarkably bright,
as everyone says to me- being referred to the 'Gifted & Talent' program.
But she lacks good social skills yet; she's manipulative & even bossy. I
think she must be the reincarnation of Queen Elizabeth I; she is a real
dominating presence. Hopefully it will change to charisma
someday...*sigh*

Started 'Aqua-Exercise' class, which helps remarkably!
