The word can mean the same thing in Sanskrit and
is taken from there.

Yes, this is indeed the case for real tantra too.

What I have seen of Hindu tantra and Tibetan tantra
is that the two directions are very similar.
One main difference is in the deities being
worshipped, but here again, many Hindu deities
are found in Tibetan tantra, only under different
names. :)
Om mani padme hum, for example, is Sanskrit.
