Subject: [K-list] Horror stories & free will

Hi Steve & list !
If we really go to the root of the Big "WHY" - the mother of all questions
so to speak - why does anything happen the way it happens at all - why do
atoms and subatomic particles behave they do, creating physical reality the
way we perceive it- why do planets "happen" and move the way they do,
creating a perfectly balanced solar system with a tiny hellish & paradisical
planet we call "earth" smack in the middle of it- why do some people get into
yoga where others might be drawn to making pornographic movies and others
again might be into both ? One final answer could be that it's Gods will or
the cosmic intelligence creating life perfectly according to Its plan - even
when it appears to be less than perfect to us.
The sceptical rationalist would probably want me burned on the stake for such
a woolly statement but in the end I can't help myself, I just believe it to
be so. If this really is the "True Nature of Things as They Are", this of
course means that ultimately there's no specific reason beyond God's will for
why some persons have a more difficult and longer time in the clutches of
kundalini.
On a more superficial level there's probably a definite cause & effect
mechanism at work and the possible reasons for difficulties with kundalini
you mentioned seem to be frequently cited. I remember reading the account of
a yogi in India saying something like :"There are no problems involved with
kundalini and you can raise the energy in 40 days and achieve final
realisation." What he didn't specify was that before awakening kundalini, he
had spent most of his life in the ashram performing sadhana with hatha-yoga,
pranayama, sattvic diet etc. Also if one adheres to the idea of
reincarnation, one would probably already have to have a relatively "pure",
(i.e undistorted by ego, mind & desire) state of consciousness to be born
into a yogic/ashram type of environment...
So accordingly, the blocked chakras, rigid intellect, problems of the body
handling energy etc.. can be traced to limited thinking and ego-linked
psychic processes and acts over long periods of time, which then become the
major hurdles for the shakti when she awakes . The duration of 40 days for
the energy to complete Her job for the yogi or the 960 days cited by Wim
earlier in his post earlier just don't apply to some. I say this looking
back on 20+ years - but then of course I've probably been a really bad boy
for eternities on end.
If one doesn't take it too personally - after all it's just God's perfect
will in action - it then becomes The Way Things Are And Couldn't Possibly Be
Otherwise. (Hey, this is theistic Zen ! - one more new religion !)
Anyway, going all the way with the Divine Plan theory of course makes the
concept of individual free will questionable - and intuitively I'd say that
whatever we perceive as free will and individual descision-making is just the
subtle working of the shakti in action - more burning at the stake coming up
- life energy within the nervous system, firing up certain neurones, opening
neural pathways in the brain, creating thought-images within our
consciousness and presto! - we've just decided what to buy for lunch - (or to
go to India to spend 40 days in the ashram and be enlightened).
As for why so many "unprepared" people have kundalini awakening and go
through the various stages of hell & purgatory ( why am I feeling so biblical
and medieval today ?) at this particular time, maybe the universe just needs
& wants to pull up a certain number of people out of the clutches of matter
and illusion ?
