I'd gone to visit a friend, and she was wearing a wristwatch that had
some kind of oblong brown 'spot' attached to the end of the minute hand.
I didn't pay much attention to noticing the design, other than noticing
that. My intitial reaction to it the the thought that that lttle brown
spot looked like a cockroach. (Hey, I'm a SE Texan, we see cockroachs
EVERYWHERE!) Anyway, at one point, she held it out toward me, and asked
me how I liked her new watch, and still in the 'mind set' that that
brown thing looked like a cock roach, i just kind of shrugged, tried to
say it was nice, and she realized I didn't 'get it'. she pointed out
that there was a football player on the face of the watch, and that
little brown thing attached to the minute hand was a fotball in his
hand, the minute hand being his arm. So, I said, 'OOOOHHHH! Okay!'
Then she asked me what I had THOUGHT it was, and, duh, I honestly told I
had thought it looked like a cockroach. And she absolute HATES
cockroaches, just the thought of them gives her shudders. She told me I
had ruined her watch she had been so proud of. She told me later she
tried for days to forget what I'd said, but from then on, whenever she
looked at it, it looked like a cockroach to her, too. so she soon quit
wearing it and put it away. she said she's sure it will now ALWAYS look
like a cockroach to her! Power of suggestion is incredible, isn't it?
