Yes, that is interesting, isn't it?
Now, let me pose another aspect as food for thought. That of 'us' which
is actually 'us', the spirit or soul, whatever one wants to call it,
that has 'occupied' the various 'dwellings', persons, we have been, can
only perceive itself from within 'who' it (real self) really 'are'. That
which is of 'outward identity', 'who' the PERSON is, is of the MENTAL
EGO, that connected to the physical body, or dwelling. The 'dwelling',
the person, and the mental ego it builds to 'identify' itself in it's
enviroment, is nothing but the vehicle, means, through which the soul
'real self', is able to expereience existence in this realm, and learn
the lessons it will learn in that 'lifetime'. To the 'real self', the
'importance' of that mental ego, that person which merely served as it's
dwelling for a while, is of little matter. It is the lessons it learned,
the 'experiences' it gained, in that incarnation. Thus, whatever lesson
was learned, it was learned just as well whether in the form of a
peasant, a martyr, a famous leader, etc. The real self, the soul, has no
ego attachments to the vehicle it happened to have inhabited for that
purpose.
Therefore, I pose questions about may supposed 'past life memories',
that are most fully centered on the mental ego, the identity, of that
person. Since it matters not the 'importance' in worldly concepts 'who'
the vehicle person was, or who it's mental ego thought it was, why do
such 'memries' almost entirely focus on aspects of the person, the
mental ego?
Now, don't assume here I mean this indicates this 'past life memory' is
really nothing but something manufactured by this person's own present
mental ego, indeed, many might well be just that, but consider also the
possiblity that what is being 'remembered' is in fact something of one
or more of those PAST mental egos, worldly identities, that this 'real
self' allowed to 'ride along, as an 'attachment', a part of it's karma,
from the past life/lives. In that case, the gragment of a past mental
ego might be itself, with the help of the present mental ego,
're-creating' an image of it's past identity, that conforms to the
nature of this 'attached' bit of a past mental ego. Ie, this bit of past
mental ego works with the present mental ego to 'remeber' some powerful
leader, for example, but what this 'attached' bit of mental ego that the
self liked to much to leave behind WAS it's feelings of being great and
powerful, in whatever environment it 'lived' in, even if in truth, it
was just as a straw boss type leader of a little band of renegades.
Since the FEELINGS of power it experienced in that seems more consistent
with the present mental ego with being Napolean, then that's what it
re-cpnmstrcuts' as a 'memory'. Or perhaps the past mental ego simply
'identified' with such a person, maybe it's 'real place' was the beggar
boy that emptied Napolean's chamber pot, but it took vacarious identity
from it's association with and admiration of that one.
As you note, surely not everybody can be the reincarnation f great and
famous people. And as in you brief glimpse of standing looking ot,
shaking a rug, when you do such a thing NOW, are there ANY thoughts at
the time of who you are, where you are? No, very seldom. You are just
doing, and looking. And to have sucvh a flash back, that would be how we
would likely expereience, not with much specifics of when, where, who,
etc. The expereiece as you described would have felt and looked through
ones eyes much the ame over many centuries, in many lands, and it would
be quite difficult to determine those things. Of greater importance, is
WHY your 'self' has 'remembered' that, what was significant to it about
that 'moment' from se lifetime?
'Identifying' with famous people seems a bit too much of the mental
ego's kind of interests for me to gve it much credence, even in some
such 'glimpses' I've had my own self. Hey, yeah, I (my present mental
ego, person identity) would LOVE to beleive and make boast of being some
past person I admire, but for all I know, I may have been quite the
opposite kind of person, and my mental ego is trying to discount that.
