It is done this way in monasteries (of all faiths, or certainly most of
them) as well. It is what they speak of when they say, chop wood, carry
water. It's such a simple grounding method that many overlook
it--something more esoteric would, perhaps, please that part of themselves
that demands complexity. One of my teachers used to say that the Universe
is elegantly simple--we are the ones who add the complications. It was his
teaching that this is true even in awakening. It's much simpler than we
think, if we go with the currents as they flow about us.
