I am only recently a grandmother so I am still learning about how to relate
to grandchildren in this way. However I did develop a telepathic rapport
with my grandaughter even before she was born. I would go into meditation
and speak to her.
She and my daughter do not live near me, and I am lucky if I can see them
every couple of months. However my daughter and I had worked on spiritual
growth for years. Since my daughter developed an interest in dreams at an
early age, I used this to help her understand herself and her spiritual
growth. We regularly discuss our dream material, and often we dream the same
dream, seeing it from slightly different viewpoints as if we were two
witnesses at the same scene.
So with the grandaughter we intend to continue this and encourage dream
sharing as soon as she can talk. At the moment she is 16 months old, and she
seems to have remembered me whenever she sees me. I get a secret kind of
smile from her as if she is saying "I know who you are."
We can do a lot at subjective levels provided our intentions is pure.
The other thing I think is important is some kind of structure to develop
spiritually such as you described. It could be church or Sunday School or
similar other too, but it is important to teach the child to think things
through in the spiritual realm instead of just taking what others say as
fact. I think it is this kind of discriminative thinking which also helps us
to begin to walk our individual paths.
